Bio

I am a historian of the United States and specialize in the history of the Early Republic and in women's and gender history.

Since 1995 I have been a faculty member of the Dept. of Multidisciplinary Studies  at the University of Haifa, Israel. Between 2005 and 2012 I served as the director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, at the University of Haifa, Israel. I led the initiative to establish and accredit the Women’s and Gender Studies Graduate Program and served as co-chair until 2016. Between 2016 and 2019 I served as chair of the Dept. of Multidisciplinary Studies.

I was a  founding member of the Israel Association of Feminist and Gender Studies (1997) and a member of its board (1998-2002).

I am completing a book concerning the political lives of American children and adolescents between 1760 and 1840 and have begun recently a research project on emotions and political violence between 1780 and 1840

Among my research interests are the history of the early American republic, the history of identities, the relationship between women and the state, and the history of girlhood in early America. I have published numerous articles about intersections of politics, gender and the media and American women’s autobiographies and travels.
